Tummy Time
& Infant Massage

This therapy can be provided on an individual or group basis.

In the group sessions, parents have time to share wisdom and experiences that have made their lives easier

Tummy Time & Infant Massage uses several modalities to create regulation in both parent and infant and serves to strengthen the bond between them.

I have found that parents have a wonderful, intuitive sense about what their infant needs and our work together only serves to enhance that magical connection.

Infant massage, consistent tummy time and bonding activities give the child a rich foundation for the beginning of life.

During a typical Tummy Time Session

In a tummy time session, I give a parent and child the support they need to position the baby on their tummy. Tummy time is such an important aspect of early child development, but for various reasons there may be issues that keep a child from tolerating it. When given some alternative locations for tummy time or encouraging the relational aspect of it, the child can be successful.

Tummy time is important for

  • Strengthening the child’s core

  • Strengthening upper extremities

  • Developing affect regulation

  • Keeping grounded - with the belly on the “earth”

  • Improving perceptural development

During a typical Infant Massage Session

During an infant massage session I might share a variety of massage techniques that help to soothe the baby and improves their body awareness. Massage can support the parent/caregiver to trust their own intuition as to what their child needs. It also provides an opportunity for parents and therapist to discuss the importance of attuning to the child emotionally and physically

An infant massage session leads to

  • Improved parent-child attunement

  • Better body awareness

  • Improved digestion

  • Improved immune system

“So many pointers that helped me to connect in a deeper way emotionally with my child."

“I so enjoyed the Tummy Time group that my child and I participated in. He was initially so adverse to spending time on his tummy. I also think he was a little bit delayed in gross motor in general. But Sarah’s knowledge of developmental movement was extensive. She also gave me so many pointers that helped me to connect in a deeper way emotionally with my child. Plus the group was fun and I made friends with some of the other mothers. Thanks so much!
